Newsletter for Customers and Business Partners 03/2008 Dear Sir or Madam,

From 1 September until 30 November 2008, the port state control regions PARIS MOU, TOKYO MOU, BLACK SEA MOU, INDIAN OCEAN MOU and USCG will carry out a Concentrated Inspection Campaign. It applies to SOLAS Chapter V for navigational equipment onboard. These port state control authorities will carry out the campaign during the normal inspections of ships in port as an additional task. A list with possible questions to be used by PSC inspectors can be found in the article “Questionnaire Available for the New PSC Concentrated Inspection Campaign”.

Further news on rules and guidelines concerning shipping and the maritime industry are presented in this latest edition of GL-Infomail.

Questionnaire Available for the New PSC Concentrated Inspection Campaign

The PSC regions of PARIS MOU, TOKYO MOU, BLACK SEA MOU, INDIAN OCEAN MOU and USCG will carry out an Inspection Campaign on navigational equipment onboard. PSC inspectors will use a checklist to ask certain questions during their routine PSC visits onboard. The campaign will take place from 1 September to 30 November 2008.

Germanischer Lloyd received this PSC questionnaire via a Flag Administration. As to our knowledge, the member states of the other MOUs will use a similar catalogue of questions in their region.

With this questionnaire, GL is providing you with the information you need to brief your ships' masters. You may now take the necessary action to ensure that your ships are properly maintained. In addition, the questionnaire helps to prepare the crews for the campaign so they can avoid problems with PSC during port stays.

You can access the questionnaire to be used by PSC inspectors on the GL website here.
It is not advisable to show the questionnaire to the PSC inspectors, but to use it as guidance for your preparation of the questions.
