05078.GEN - Medical report forms (MED1) & drug and alcohol testing policy
05078.GEN - March 15 , 2005
When submitting an application for seafarer documents you must submit a medical report (MED1), and a copy of the drug and alcohol tests. The drug and alcohol tests are part of the application requirements for all seafarers.
You should use VMSL’s medical report forms (MED1) that are supplied with our application. If you choose to use another form, it must contain the same information as the MED1 forms. Some countries / administrations permit random drug test. If you submit a random drug testing letter, you must provide the last test results, and the date the last test was performed. New hires must submit a medical report with drug and alcohol test results. (See the ANNEX on the back of this letter for more information).
Please refer to the Vanuatu Maritime Regulations, Chapter 8, (Merchant Seamen), Section 54, (Medical Fitness Certificates), paragraph 6. The blood pressure for the seafarer must be below 160/100. We will not accept any reading that is over 159/99. It goes without saying that the seafarer must be deemed medically fit for normal duty.
An application may take several days to process from the time it reaches the New York office. If the application is incomplete or information is missing, and the drug and alcohol test results are not included, we will not process the application until we receive the information required.
