The Vanuatu Maritime Act, Cap 131, and Maritime Regulations, were revised in January 1999 to incorporate the compliance requirements of the 1995 Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping, 1978, as amended in 1995 (STCW 95).
During the gazetting process a number of errors were identified and we had hoped to have those errors corrected prior to distribution. That has not yet taken place nor is it currently on Parliament's agenda.
In view of the fast approaching STCW full implementation deadline of 31 January 2002, we have decided to distribute the Act and Regulations as gazetted, along with errata pages and proposed amendments which we believe are necessary.
Enclosed, therefore, please find two bound copies of the Maritime Act, Cap 131, and Maritime Regulations, with errata pages, and proposed amendments, immediately following the specific document. One copy should be maintained in your office and one copy should be sent to a vessel in your fleet.
Additional copies may be obtained and distributed as follows:
